Title: How much to build new Spitfires?

Crazy question perhaps. But has anyone tried to produce new Spitfires with todays equipment but for private use? Wouldnt a new serie produced Spitfire be more interesting than a dull Cessna? And what would the price difference be if one were to produce say 1000 Spitfires?

Lots...Most Spitfires today that are being rebuilt are pretty much new builds.Material wise you could look at $20,000 just for the fuselage sheetmetal and frames.Then you have to fit it out.Most expensive in dollars and labour is the wings I,m afraid even in todays standards.Next is the engine.Rolls Royce Merlins are getting hard to find and at 2000 hours to rebuild one the prices escalate.Now have you thought of obtaining original oleos or going to all the trouble of remaking the forgings,yes they are forged not cast legs.Engine bearers need new fittings and Chromolly tubes,taper pins need to be remade.How about tyres,Dunlop don,t make them anymore and the tubes and brake diaphragms are getting rare for airworthy ones.
