Title: Alex Henshaw
Post by: Arrowair on November 19, 2009, 07:06:55 PM
Can anybody help me locate the full film record of Alex Henshaw demonstrating the Spitfire at Castle Bromwich. i think it was shown as part of a documentary on TV approx 15 years or so ago. The BBC cannot help very much. It may have been part of "Spitfire at War" of a documentary about Winston Churchill. The reason I want this is to emulate the routine with my 1/6th scale radio controlled model, under construction. I know it is detailed in AH's book, Sigh for a Merlin, but to see it recorded would be extremely helpful.

There is a sequence of AH demonstrating at Spit' V in the wartime information film 'Ferry Pilot', copies of which are I recall are available from the IWM shop. Little if any of this was shot actually at CB. There are a few short clips of AH whizzing past the hangars at CB, but they may well not amount to more than a few short clips - not unusual given the technology of the time. Like you, I'd be very interested if more could be tracked down.
