Title: NACA flight reports on Spitfire VA
Post by: NZTyphoon on January 25, 2009, 11:37:17 AM
These are available on the net as downloadable pdf files; http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19930092581_1993092581.pdf
and http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19930092581_1993092581.pdf. Also, for those of a more scientific mind here is a comprehensive NACA report  http://naca.central.cranfield.ac.uk/reports/1947/naca-report-868.pdf which include comparisons of the roll-rates of various fighters, including the Spitfire. A look at some tables on pp 41 & 42 of the pdf file shows that the Spitfire compared well with aircraft designed up to five years after the Spifire's first flight.

Thanks for locating these. I expect a very useful comparison with known Boscombe Down reports on Mk. V performance.
