Title: Questions about Battle of Dunkirk
Post by: kaibernierchen on June 13, 2016, 08:15:29 PM
I'm currently in the middle of researching the Battle of Dunkirk as part of my college senior project. Thank you in advance for any help or answers you can provide.

1) What were the German and British aircraft losses for each day of Operation Dynamo?

2) What was the average size of a Luftwaffe raiding group attacking Dunkirk? What was the average size of a British RAF defending group, taking into account the increase in the number of squadrons for each patrol?

3) What were the weather conditions over the Dunkirk area during Operation Dynamo?

4) How were the burning oil tanks, attacked on the 27th, cleared up? The smoke cloud hampered Luftwaffe attack on the 28th, but not on any subsequent days, why?

5) How many Luftwaffe raids were undertaken each day against Dunkirk during Operation Dynamo?

6) By the end of Operation Dynamo, what were the win/loss ratios for the RAF and German aircrafts that took part?

7) When Operation Dynamo was ordered to proceed only at night, did the RAF patrols over Dunkirk decrease? If not, did they shift to patrolling the Dunkirk defensive line?

8) What was the distance (miles or kilometers) that Army Group A traveled from the launch of Germany’s western offensive on May 10, 1940 to when it reached the mouth of the Somme River on May 20, 1940?
