I forward this request from a reader.

"I know that during World War Two many towns and cities across the UK raised money through public subscription to "buy" a Spitfire for the RAF.  Do you, or any of your colleagues, know whether there was ever such an aeroplane named after the town of Spalding in Lincolnshire please?"

Can't find anything in "Gifts of War," only "Lincoln Imp," and "The Lincolnshire Poacher."
