Readers may be aware of the 1940 Spitfire Fund?   ???This fund was set up by the Ministry to give communities the opportunity to donate money towards specific War gifts, boats and planes etc.  The people of Lytham St Annes, on the West coast of Lancashire decided to raise the 6000 pounds needed to purchase a Spitfire for the War effort.  This total was then matched be the Ministry of Aviation.  6000 pounds in 1940 is the equivalent of over 735.000 pounds today when comparing wages then to today.
A small group has researched the Lytham St Annes Spitfire and is now trying to raise 39,000 pounds to build a full size replica model.  A fund has been launched as well as a website www.fyldebbmfund.wordpress.com  We are asking for donations to help us build the Spitfire and in return we will send contributors a limited edition set of 4 postcards, depicting the aircraft we hope will be featured in this unique memorial.  Details of where to write to are included on the website.  Please spread the word!
Finally on the weekend of the 27th-28th June we have a big parade in Lytham town centre, there is a big fair and lots to do, many thousands attend. We will be putting on a static dispaly using a real Spitfire!!  there will also be a display trailer with mock Spitfire cockpit and Spit Simulator.  We will aslo have a seperate static display with memorabilia from the Fylde coast during WW2.  So if you want to have a great weekend out and come and help us raise funds for the Spitfire get yourself and family up to FY8 on the 27th & 28th June 2009.  I look forward to your support! Thanks John  Grin
