I need to re-live my childhood and get back into modelling.
A spitfire is on the top of the list but who makes the best models these days?

I do !!  Grin

Just kidding, it depens on the scale you prefer. Personally I find the 1/72 Revell Mk V and the 1/48 Tamiya Mk I and Mk V very good.

New Airfix PRXIX in 1:72, The IX in 1:48 is nice as well. Good luck!

Been there, done that Smiley If you're new to modern modelling, I strongly suggest that you try on one of the Japanese offerings - either Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk. I or Mk. V, or their 1/72 Spitfires, same marks. Hasegawa has similar offering in 1/48 (Mk. V) and 1/72 (Mk. VIII / IX).

I think that experiencing the exquisite fit and finesse of these kits is just what a "returning modeller" needs.
Hope this helps.
