Where to look for spitfire crash reports?

Hi,
I'm researching a Spitfire that crashed near to where I live during the war.
I have found a few snippets of information from various sources about the incident, most are ambiguous and often contradictory.
Did the RAF carry out an investigation into each crash and write a full report, if so where are those records held now?
Regards,
Jon
